Lava & Ice Adventure – Into the Glacier

We drive through the picturesque Hvalfjörður fjord to the Borgarfjörður district where we’ll visit Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. We drive further inland to Hraunfossar and Barnafossar waterfalls and on through the Húsafell woodlands.

At Húsafell we leave the main road and take the highland trail to Iceland’s second largest ice field, Langjökull glacier. Then we descend the man-made ice cave “Into the Glacier” and explore the extensive tunnels with an experienced guide.

On the way back to Reykjavik, we drive from the desert valley of Kaldidalur, Iceland’s highest mountain track on to Þingvellir National Park. The latter is an UNESCO World Heritage Site where we admire the geological powers, speaking of which the separation of the North-American and Eurasian Plate. This place is also where Alþingi, the world’s oldest continually running parliament, was founded (930 AD).
